What Syncrony does to get your site known to the search engines

Getting Indexed
We are only interested in 3 main engines.

• Google
• Yahoo
• MSN

Of these Google is the largest with well over 50% of the total search market. Thus we don’t really care how many other engines have indexed our site.
Notes:

• Marketing deals that offer to submit your site to thousands of search engines are rubbish – there is only 1 Google!
• Your site needs to be submitted to Google only once. There is NO POINT in submitting it to google.co.za and google.co.uk etc.

New sites
Most new sites take 1 to 2 months to get indexed by Google etc. In fact, the longer a site has been live is an important factor in its Google rating -older sites have a ranking advantage.

We have various strategies to reduce this w ait time, we will submit the site’s links to:

• Directory Listing site(s)
  • Local
  • International
• Social bookmarking sites - delicious.com and stumbleupon.com
• Various parts of Google manually

Note: Submitting your new site to other sites that are already listed needs to be done where possible.

Directory listing - Submissions Local:
We submit all sites to the following South African based directories (add more if possible) :

Directory listing - Submissions International:
We submit all sites to:

1. DMOZ
2. Yahoo
3. Google

DMOZ
This is a strict human edited, open source directory that does not allow spam submissions and will manually vet each entry submitted.

To submit to this:

1. Browse to http://www.dmoz-odp.org/
2. Choose a main category
3. Work your way down the categories until you get to the right level
4. Then click SUGGEST URL from the main menu above
5. Now complete the form
6. Add the site title and the Site Descriptor details
7. Use your email address.

If submissions are done by Syncrony, we will notify you via email when this is done.

Yahoo!

1. Go to http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html
2. Select Submit Your Site for Free:
3. Under the paragraph: Submit a Website or Webpage enter the site URL and click submit

Google

1. Go to http://www.google.com/addurl/
2. Enter the URL
3. Comments: Add the site description text
4. Type in the Captcha text
5. Click the Add URL button

Social Bookmarking sites
We use 2 popular social bookmarking sites - StumbleUpon and Delicious to add to site visibility in worldwide non commercial searches.

Delicious
If you do not have the plugin installed in your browser, install it via this link - http://del.icio.us/ and follow the instructions to download the plugin.
To Bookmark your site.

1. Browse to your site
2. Click the TAG icon in your browser top bar (or select Bookmark this delicious) from the Delicious menu icon.
3. Add basic details about the site – LIKE A MINI ABOUT US – to the notes block
4. Add tags which will be the sites meta tags or Search Tags

Stumble Upon
Load the stumble upon plugin into your browser.
To add your site:

1. Browse to your site
2. Click the I LIKE IT icon in the stumble upon menu
3. Add the Tags for the site into the review block
4. Find the most appropriate topic
5. Set Adult to NO!
6. Submit the Rating

Google manual submission
We add your site to the following:

1. Google Site Map
2. Google Maps
3. Google Analytics

Adding Your Site to the Google Dashboard:
We use the Google Dashboard from Google Webmaster Tools as a starting point for a site's management on Google.

Google Maps
A listing in Google Maps is free and provides good extra exposure for your website.
To add your site to Google Maps:

1. Go to maps.google.com
2. Click on Add or Edit your business
3. Locations Tab
4. Click Add New Listing
5. Enter Country and Company Name
6. Enter Street Address details
7. Find the location on the Map
8. Enter the phone no
9. Add email address
10. Please expect the verification phone call from Google
